Toyo, patis, suka and alcohol on the table!
If one city councilor can have his way, restaurants will have re-invented themselves to introduce a new health and eating lifestyle.
For starters, in addition to the usual provisions for salt and pepper shakers, paper napkins and containers for condiments on the table, he would like to see restaurants provide a bottle of alcohol or hand sanitizer in all tables as well.
Dagupan City Councilor Jesus Canto, a doctor by profession and former director of the Region 1 Medical Center here, told The PUNCH that he is set to file a resolution on Monday during the council’s regular session that will include this requirement to address the swine flu epidemic.
He said the new practice should help diners maintain proper hygiene when eating and help arrest the spread of the A(H1N1) virus.
He said another provision in his proposal is to mandate all government agencies or offices to supply comfort rooms with bars of soap.
Canto, who arrived from the United States last June 12, said he observed self-quarantine for 10 days and urged others who traveled abroad to do the same as their responsibility to themselves and to others.
It will be recalled that Canto authored the ordinance that made spitting in public areas punishable by law. #
