They are asking for the moon–Mejia
The Dagupan City government belittled a recent petition of informal settlers of Sitio Russia in Bonuan Binloc asking President Gloria Arroyo to set aside and proclaim the land which they now occupy as an official site for housing and settlement.
City Legal Officer George Mejia received a copy of the petition dated June 11, 2009 and described the petition as a last-ditch attempt of the informal settlers to hold on to the land that they are illegally occupying despite their lost cause.
He said the Sitio Russia of Bonuan Binloc Neighborhood Association is asking for the moon and pointed out that their position is inconsistent with Resolution No, 4687-2004 adopted by the city in November 2004.
Mejia said Resolution No. 4687-2004 defines the policy of the city of Dagupan as far as public lands are concerned, i.e., declaring the city’s intention to use all available public lands within its territorial limits for commercial, tourism, and resettlement purposes.
He pointed out that the land being sought by the informal settlers is an accreted land adjacent to the land declared under Proclamation 98, making the city government the administrator
Mejia also pointed out that being poor and landless, the informal settlers of Sitio Russia have no capacity to build the area for housing and settlement. – LM
