ROSALES–Pangasinan’s nine-year old girl chess prodigy made the country proud again when she won a gold, three silver and one bronze medals in the 10th ASEAN Chess Championship held in Hue, Vietnam, June 6 to 16.

As of last count, Samantha Glo Revita, a grade four pupil in Rosales North Central School, has already won 18 medals from international chess tournaments: three gold, ten silver and five bronze in separate tournaments in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Turkey.

Since 2006, Samantha has consistently won as champion and in the National Age Group Chess Championship in the country that qualifies her to represent the country in international competitions.

Her latest medal haul was one gold for individual, three silver for team and one bronze for individual.

Each time she comes home with new medals, she is given a heroine’s welcome in her town with matching parade around the Poblacion area.

Her schoolmates give her recognition in a simple yet meaningful program in her school while school authorities present her with new plaque of recognition for her fresh victory.

Samantha said she is proud of what she has achieved so far and wants other young people like her to believe in their own capabilities to succeed in any endeavor.

She will again compete on November 11 to 23 this year in the World Youth Chess Championship to be held in Antalya, Turkey. It will be already her eighth international tournament.#
