PNRC assures blood supply
The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Pangasinan chapter successfully collected a total of 138 units of blood in a mass blood donation held at the CSI The City Mall in Dagupan City in celebration of the 150th year of the Battle of Solferino.
Floramae Magalong, PNRC Pangasinan administrator, said the recent blood-letting will enable the local chapter to provide for needs of Pangasinenses in the months ahead.
The Battle of Solferino was staged in Europe on June 24, 1859 where 200,000 soldiers, led by their monarchs, fought. Jean-Henri Dunant, who witnessed the battle in person and saw the suffering of the wounded, was motivated to begin a campaign that eventually resulted in the Geneva Conventions and the establishment of the International Red Cross.
Magalong said conducting mass blood donations is the only way to address the shortage in blood supply.
The PNRC local chapter here needs to maintain 300 blood units every month, Magalong said.
Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, president of the CSI Group of Companies who co-sponsored the bloodletting drive, together with Safeguard and Aksyon Radyo, thanked “those who donated their precious blood so that others may live”. #
