LINGAYEN–Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the Department of Transportation and Communication has given signal for the initial release of P100-million fund to start the construction of commercial seaport in Sual.

Espino said that DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza gave the green light during their talk Wednesday.

“May go signal ako na simulan ko na raw,” he said.

Espino is set to meet with representatives from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and Sual Mayor John Rodney Arcinue on the cost sharing scheme to complete the project.

When completed, it will be jointly handled by the PPA and the provincial government.

The seaport will be built along the Bacquioen Bay, a natural harbor parallel to the Sual Power Plant.

Some 23 prospective locators have already signified their interests to avail of the services of the port.

Espino said the planned seaport will allow for easy transport the province’s reserve of mineral resources to other countries.

He said the province can not attract industries and other businesses, and the local mining, commercial fishing, and other export-oriented industries without a commercial seaport, and a bigger airport. #
