2 million fry for Western Pangasinan
The National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center in Dagupan City has committed two million bangus fry to help rehabilitate the bangus industry in Western Pangasinan that nearly collapsed as a result of the damage caused by Typhoon “Emong”.
NFTDIC Chief Westly Rosario said he was authorized by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Director Malcolm Sarmiento to allocate two million fry for Western Pangasinan.
He said he will coordinate shortly with Mayor Alfonso Celeste of Bolinao and the BFAR regional office regarding the release of the fry.
The two million fry, he said, is on top of the 12 million fry earlier promised by Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap to western Pangasinan.
Rosario said the two million fry was produced by the National Bangus Hatchery in Bonuan Binloc.
It’s up for the mayors to distribute the fry to their respective constituents, Rosario said. – LM
