Pangasinan to hold Veterans’ Day

LINGAYEN— Developmental tourism and environmental consciousness will take center page during the week-long commemoration of the Lingayen Gulf landings and the ‘Agew ya Kawayangan ed Pangasinan 2009’ (Pangasinan Veterans Day 2009) from January 5 to 9 will center on.

According to Ret. Colonel Paterno Orduna, over-all chairman of the affair, a unique feature of the commemoration will be the staging of the first ever ‘Limgas na ‘Kawayangan ed Pangasinan 2009’ where participation is exclusively reserved for granddaughters of Pangasinan war veterans.

Thirteen finalists will vie for the crown on January 5 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

The candidates will retell the heroism of their grandfathers during the war in one phase of the selection activity.

Meanwhile, youth leaders are scheduled to have a fellowship activity with the governor and other public officials after viewing a glimpse of the past through an audio-visual presentation during the Youth Camp on January 7 to 9.

In honor of the war heroes, the province will revive the Save the Lingayen Gulf (SLING) movement through the (Save Lingayen Gulf Save Our Rivers A lasting Tribute to Environment in honor of our war heroes, on January 8 as a way of saving and protecting the environment in Lingayen.

This will be followed by a simultaneous clean-up drive at the Lingayen Beach front, Manat River in Binmaley and the Palaris River in Lingayen.

The highlights of the celebration on January 9 will be a wreath laying to the sound of taps by Former President Fidel V. Ramos and Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. at the Veterans’ Memorial Park at the capitol compound in the morning.

In the evening of the same day, a grand coronation pageant is scheduled for the winners of the ‘Limgas na Kawayangan ed Pangasinan 2009’ at the capitol plaza. –PIO
