Complete circumferential road, JdV asked
AFTER the inauguration of the Jose R. de Venecia Sr. Expressway Extension, Dagupan City officials were back knocking on former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.’s doors for the funding of another project to complete his envisioned circumferential road.
This time, it will be a Dawel- Mamalingling-Tebeng extension.
The new project will complete his envisioned circumferential road that will lead to the diversion road in Calasiao town and to the main Jose R. de Venecia Road (from barangay Nalsian, Calasiao to Lucao, Dagupan City).
Observers, however, believe this may already be a tall order for the congressman since he only one and a half year in office, coupled with the fact that he is no longer Speaker.
De Venecia inaugurated the new expressway extension on December 27, presided by Mayor Alipio Fernandez and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.
The city officials thanked De Venecia for his initiatives that resulted in the construction of the new expressway extension which Mayor Fernandez described as the Dagupenos’ longest dream.
Vice Mayor Fernandez said naming expressway extension after the congressman’s father was what the city could do best to honor him.
For his part, the congressman said he saved his Congressional Development Assistance Fund (CDAF) for many years to be able to build the 4.9 kilometer highway and leave a lasting legacy to constituents in the district.
Although considered today as a major detractor of his erstwhile ally President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, de Venecia urged Dagupenos to also thank the latter for giving her imprimatur to the project.
De Venecia said a complementary project, construction of a side road from Barangay Pantal to Jose R. de Venecia Expressway Extension is now going on and set for inauguration on February 14.
Mayor Fernandez also asked De Venecia to help fund the construction of a theme park below the new bridge which could serve as berthing area for the proposed Tri-City Ferry System linking Alaminos, San Fernando and Dagupan. –LM
