Pozorrubio is now a 1st class municipality with an average income of P70 million over the last four years.

Prior to the re-classification, the still 2nd class town was awarded in early November as the Provincial Champion for the Best Local Government Unit-Local Government Performance Management System for2008, besting all the 1st, 2nd and 3rd class towns of Pangasinan.

Mayor Emma Chan described the upgrade as timely since the town’s people and local government officials have been expecting it.

Pozorrubio was a 4th class municipality when former Mayor Art Chan, husband of the incumbent, was elected into office in 1998. He served for 9 years after which his wife succeeded him in 2007.

The Chan couple has been promoting the slogan hawak-kamay as the theme of their development program and credited the people diligently paying the correct taxes, permits and other miscellaneous fees.

Pozorrubio will now represent Pangasinan in the next level of competitions, the Regional Development Council-Department of Internal and Local Government Award Searches for Region 1’s Best LGU-LGPMS; the cleanest, greenest and safest province, city or municipality, coastal and inland bodies of water; LGU Best Practices, and; Best NGO-LGU Practices.

The Regional Search Committee is currently conducting validation visits to the provinces, cities, and municipalities.
