Pangasinan celebrates “peaceful Christmas”
LINGAYEN–It was a peaceful Christmas celebration with hardly any crimes reported in the province, according to the police provincial director.
Senior Superintendent Percival Barba said on Thursday that only two crimes were reported throughout the province from Christmas Eve to December 25.
“This is the greatest gift of Pangasinenses to themselves and to their province as well “Sana araw-araw ay Pasko,” Barba told The PUNCH.
Barba also said there were no reported sightings of the New People’s Army members in the border areas with Zambales and Nueva Ecija.
He credited the proactive measures undertaken by the police with help from non-government organizations and barangay officials.
Meanwhile, Barba said he has ordered the covering of the muzzles of the guns of the 1,965 uniformed policemen in Pangasinan on December 29 to help contain the indiscriminate firing of guns by any police personnel in welcoming New Year.
The ‘taped’ guns will be inspected on January 2 even as the policemen will be asked to sign a document committing themselves to the objective.
Barba, however, pointed out that the guns can be used at anytime for legitimate operations and the police will remain on alert for crimes over the holidays.#
