Provincial workers get extra P10,000 Christmas cash gift
LINGAYEN—Some 3,000 employees of the provincial government, including regular and casual staff, received an extra cash gift of P10,000 on December 16.
Provincial Budget Officer Hilaria Claveria said the amount is on top of their 13th month pay, plus P5,000 cash gift as provided for in Republic Act 8481, both of which had already been released earlier. However, the extra cash gift did not benefit the contractual employees.
The total cash gift of P15,000 this year is the biggest bonanza ever given by any provincial administration in Pangasinan.
Claveria said the extra cash gift for employees was drawn from the P27.9 million appropriated in the existing annual provincial budget.
The provincial employees had also been given a 10 percent increase in their monthly salary beginning July this year, the second increase effected under the present provincial administration of Governor Amado Espino Jr.
In the approved 2009 budget, a big percentage was allotted to personal services covering salaries, clothing allowance, insurances, mid-year and year-end bonuses, cash gifts and other benefits of the employees.
Meanwhile, employees of the Dagupan City government also received their extra cash through an ordinance passed on Wednesday by the city council.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. announced the financial bonanza during the employees’ Christmas Party at the City Plaza last week
Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez said on Thursday that the ordinance re-appropriated savings from the operations of the city government for 2008 for the city to come up with the extra cash gift for employees.
Under the ordinance, regular employees received and additional P5,000 bonus while emergency workers were given P2,000 each.—LM
