MANAOAG–Some 30,000 Catholic pilgrims and devotees are expected to flock to this town this week as it celebrates the 10th Galicayo Festival in honor of the venerated image of Our Lady of Manaoag.

This year’s theme, “Galicayo sa Kapayaan (Come for Peace)”, will be highlighted by a living rosary prayer, thanksgiving mass, walk for peace, procession, street dancing and other cultural and socio-civic activities.

P/Supt. Mateo Casupang, the town police chief, said security measures have been put in place to ensure public safety as well as an orderly flow of people and vehicular traffic.

Casupang said past celebrations have been generally peaceful but they are not taking any chances and would like to keep the force on full alert to handle traffic accidents, petty crimes or even terrorist activities to safeguard the visitor’s welfare during the religious and cultural festivities.

The local police will be backed by reinforcements from the 1st Regional Community Defense Group, Philippine Army, Armed Forces of the Philippines, 54th Engineering Brigade and volunteer traffic and communications groups.#
