Infanta is likely first site in province for wind power project
INFANTA—A research project on wind power will commence soon to look into the possibility of installing a similar wind power project in Bangui, Ilocos Norte that has proved to be a cheap alternative source of energy.
Celso Salazar, community environment and natural resources officer (CENRO) based in Alaminos City, told The PUNCH that a three-year Special Land Use Permit was issued to Pangasinan UPC Asia Corp to occupy five hectares located in the mountainous barangay Pita late last year.
Salazar said the allocated land is situated within a Special Forest Land Use Agreement (FLAg) area of 485.41 hectares covering public forestland.
The Pangasinan UPC Asia Corp will initially conduct a wind assessment research for at least one year using two wind masts.
“Kapag okay na ‘yun, there will be a 25 year lease agreement before they install wind turbines.” Salazar said.
“Wind power is one of the cheapest and most efficient forms of energy source,” he added.
The local government and residents of Infanta welcomed the project and are happy to host the study.
An area in Bani town, according to Salazar, is another potential site for a wind project.–CSR
