Gilbert, ex-PUNCH photojournalist, writes 30
Gilbert E. Garcia, 83, passed away peacefully on December 22.
Garcia, youngest brother of the late Ermin Garcia Sr. and PUNCH columnist Gerardo Garcia, was the PUNCH’s chief news photographer from the mid-60s to early 80s. A graduate of cinema photography in the US, joined the US Navy in the early 50s.
His photos of major political and sports news events in the province, including the Tour of Luzon in the 60s and 70s, set the standard for today’s photo coverage for local papers.
He is survived by his wife Susan, children Gina and Ralph, Gilberto Jr. and Doris, Peewee, Malou and Noel; brothers Ruben and Gerardo and sister Lita.
