THE Region 1 Medical Center has launched the “Pay 100” program, a pro-poor initiative of the Department of Health to make medicines more affordable.

Under the program, a patient can buy a complete package of medicines for the treatment of his or her ailment as diagnosed by the doctor for only P100. It applies to any ailment that requires short or even three-month medication, including tuberculosis, cardio-vascular diseases and diabetes.

The project is being piloted in Pangasinan upon the instruction of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, who wants to strengthen health services to the grassroots level.

The program was launched on Thursday by Dr. Rolando Mejia, R1MC director with Councilor Jesus Canto, chairman of the Dagupan City Council committee on health and a former R1MC director, as guest. –LM
