Dagupan’s Binyagang Bayan set on Dec. 22

MAYOR Alipio Fernandez Jr. and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez will stand as ninong and ninang to around 1,000 children of indigent families who will be baptized as Catholics on December 22.

The Binyagang Bayan, slated at the CSI Stadia, will be one of the highlights of the of the Dagupan City Fiesta from December 1 to 30 in honor of the city’s patron saint, St. John the Evangelist.

This will be the second Binyagang Bayan in as many years, with about 700 children baptized during the first occasion.

“We felt good and happy the very first time we sponsored the mass baptism for kids, that is why we are doing it again this Christmas,” said Vice Mayor Fernandez.

As ninong and ninang, the two officials will pay for all the baptismal fees and will also present over cash gifts and toys to their godchildren.

“We know the predicament of poor parents, that was why we are holding this Binyagang Bayan every year to help them,” the vice mayor said.—LM
