SAN CARLOS CITY–The national government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program was launched in Pangasinan last week targeting 10,000 beneficiaries.

The program, spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), provides cash grants to families as incentives who make certain that their children attend their classes in school.

The grant includes a monthly P500 health package for pregnant mothers or those with children aged 0-5 years old and another P300 per child not more than 14 years old in school, maximum of three children.

The project, which will run for three years, was launched last week in Urbiztondo for 2,500 beneficiaries. Project launchings were held in Mabini, Aguilar, and Bolinao, the town with the most number of beneficiaries, 4,000 families.

Margarita Sampang, DSWD regional director, told local newsmen the beneficiaries have received their initial grants for the months of August and September.

“This shall serve as their early Christmas gift from the government but they are expected to comply with the conditions,” Sampang said.

The province has been allotted P10 million monthly following a National Statistics Office survey identifying the region’s poorest to be in Pangasinan.

Uribztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong Jr. welcomed the program as a significant help to the poor in his town.

“I hope they (beneficiaries) will use the money well,” he said.

The program is being undertaken jointly by the DSWD the Department of Education, Department of Health and the Department of Interior and Local Government. #
