Baby Arenas calls for women empowerment
CALASIAO—Philanthropist Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas has urged women in the region to take the lead in efforts to protect all who are marginalized, including the women themselves.
Speaking at the 1st Regional Congress of Rural Improvement Club (RIC) and coordinators on November 27 at the Regency Hotel here, Arenas pointed out how some women are actually their worst oppressors by thinking that their marginalized conditions are normal.
“The single most important lesson here is this: The empowerment of women is a task for everyone. A marginalized woman is likely to raise marginalized children, and the marginalization of the youth is the single most potent and toxic factor in the process of underdevelopment of nations,” Arenas said.
She said livelihood initiatives such as those made by RIC are good means for empowering women.
Arenas, mother of 3rd District Rep. Ma. Rachel Arenas, leads H.E.L.P. (health, education and livelihood for people) Foundation which promotes programs directed towards women members of the family. #
