TransCo boosts energization of Luzon Grid
SAN MANUEL—The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) reported that power reliability in the Luzon grid further improved with the recent energization of Line 1 of the new double-circuit San Manuel-Mexico 230-kV transmission line.
Line 1 extended from TransCo’s power station in San Manuel, Pangasinan to Mexico, Pampanga, bypassing the province of Tarlac.
TransCo President and Chief Executive Officer Arthur N. Aguilar said the new line has boosted the N-1 capability of the transmission system.
N-1 capability is the ability of the power grid to withstand the loss of a major line without any customer experiencing power interruption.
With the San Manuel-Mexico line in place, the system has now a major alternate route to where it can transmit the bulk of power generated from North Luzon.
“We are now able to dispatch more generation from hydro-electric and coal-fired power plants in the North. With the energization of Line 1 of San Manuel-Mexico, up to 2,800 MW from Northern Luzon plants could be dispatched to serve the needs of more power customers,” Aguilar said.
