POEA relaxes licensing

URDANETA CITY–The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is now more lenient in issuing licenses to recruitment agencies that will set up operations in the provinces.

Melchor Dizon, director IV of the POEA’s Licensing and Regulation Office, speaking with the local newsmen here Friday during the “Anti-illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Seminar for Law Enforcers”, said they want to help minimize the costs, like transportation, for application for applicants from the remote areas.

At the same time, POEA will continue to strengthen their partnership with local government units for the information campaign against illegal recruitment.

Dizon noted that illegal recruitment does not just mean having paid fees for a job that did not materialize but also covers overcharging based on the ceiling on placement fees, as well as contract substitution.

The most rampant illegal recruitment cases now, according to Dizon, include the tourist visa scheme, training scheme, mail order bride and transactions through the internet without POEA approval.

Dizon advised prospective applicants to visit the POEA website at www.poea.gov.ph so they may be guided accordingly against illegal recruiters.#
