ALAMINOS CITY- Beauty certainly has its benefits.

Ms. Thailand, a candidate in this year’s Ms. Earth pageant, lost her precious ring and her hosts at the Alaminos City literally left no stone unturned, no sand under-water left unsifted until it was found and returned to her.

Divers recovered the platinum ring with diamond stub of Piyaporn Deejing, which accidentally fell in the water around Clave Island on October 30 during a visit by 14 of the 85 the candidates at the Hundred Islands National Park.

“We are thankful that the ring of Miss Thailand was found,” said gallant Alaminos Mayor Hernani Braganza who was determined to find it and have the young lady visitor continue to have fond memories of her visit to the city.

Braganza said the 20-year old Thai candidate was visibly upset and kept crying after the accident because of the ring’s sentimental value.

Minana pa nya ‘yunsa kanyang lola, it’s good that our divers were able to find it,” Braganza said with a sigh of relief.

The ring was promptly returned to Miss Thailand Friday night by Braganza with the divers who recovered it at the Microtel Inn and Suites in Capas, Tarlac where 14 of 85 candidates were then staying.

Miss Thailand, ecstatic upon getting back her heirloom, thanked the mayor and the divers profusely and even hugged the diver, Romeo Tapang, who found the ring buried 12 inches into the seabed.

Mabuti na lang at low tide (on Friday morning),” he said. “Siguro mga 40 to 50 minutes kaming naghuhukay bago nakuha ‘yung singsing,” he added.

The Ms. Earth candidates visited Alaminos where they participated in several scheduled activities including feeding program for daycare pupils and indigent children, tree-planting in the mountainous Barangay Sabangan and mangrove planting in Barangay Bued.

At the Hundred Islands National Park, the visiting beauty contestants led the launching of the Giant Clam Garden of Asia in Clave island with officials from the city, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and Lions Club International.—CSR
