Mini-Wowowee show cancelled to avert stampede
CALASIAO–It could have been another ULTRA Stampede tragedy.
But good thing television personality Willie Revillame decided to call off the show on seeing the spectators begin to be unruly, shove each other while others in the audience were seen fainting.
Revillame and other members of the cast of his noontime show ‘Wowowee’ were at the town plaza here Sunday night, for a special performance to celebrate the birthday celebration of 3rd District Rep. Ma. Rachel Arenas
Arenas said she and Revillame felt sad that more than 30,000 people went home “disappointed” but added that Revillame’s decision to cancel the show for safety considerations was well taken.
Revillame, midway into his opening song number, saw a mob pushing the barricades out of the way to gain entry into the audience area and this prompted him to stop and announced the show would no longer continue for the audience’s welfare.
Apparently, he wanted to avoid the recurrence of the stampede at the ULTRA in Pasig City two years ago that led to the deaths of hundreds of fans.
The municipal health team had its hands full attending to scores who fainted including a pregnant woman in the audience who gave birth at the scene.
She thanked Calasiao town mayor Roy Macanlalay for making the town the venue for the show. #
