DCNHS alumni want house completed

Even before the organizers of the Dagupan City National High School Grand Reunion-Homecoming scheduled on December 28, 2008 could complete their work, moves are afoot to make the unfinished alumni house as a beneficiary of the annual fund raising event.

Prominent members of the alumni are prodding Manuel Roy, executive committee chairman, and Regional Trial Judge Emma Torio to use some of the proceeds raised from the event for the completion of the unfinished alumni building located in front of the school main building in Barangay Tapuac.

The unnamed members urged the organizers and this year’s celebrators to direct the homecoming enthusiasm into a “finish-the-alumni-building” campaign, citing the challenge and offer of Mayor Alipio Fernandez, Jr., for the city government to finish the alumni house building, which has become an eyesore, “if the alumni themselves cannot get their act together and finish it.”

Meanwhile Roy said three music groups from Manila and Pangasinan have been invited to provide the entertainment.

US-based alumni led by Al Siapno and Carlos Cuison, who arrived the other week, have been busy sending out invitations to DCNHS alumni to ensure the affair’s success.

The school, founded barely after World War II, has produced many graduates who have distinguished themselves in the professions here and abroad, including National Artist, Salvador Bernal of Class 62.

Both Mayor Fernandez and former Mayor Benjie Lim are not DCNHS graduates, but agreed that the alumni night is one of the best crowd drawers in Dagupan during the December holidays.
