THE city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), designed to operate like the 911 system in the United States, will be opened on December 5 in time for the month-long Dagupan fiesta.

Acting Mayor Belen Fernandez commended the leadership of Mayor Al Fernandez Jr. for initiating the construction of the EOC, located in front of the city hall, to give the people of Dagupan easier access to public assistance during emergency situations.

“Linked with the City Disaster Coordinating Council, the police, hospitals and other agencies of the government, the EOC can provide quicker response to save lives and properties,” she said.

City administrator Alvin Fernandez said the EOC will serve as the city’s permanent venue for coordination and quick response that will operate for 24 hours, seven days a week.

He said level of emergency response capability of the city can go higher if available resources are pooled and roles are properly defined.

“Close cooperation and a high level of coordination among all support groups are, therefore, imperative,” City Administrator Fernandez said.

“Dagupan’s EOC will showcase a successful community resource mobilization effort,” he added.

The first orientation seminar for personnel manning the EOC was held last Wednesday, attended by the two Fernandezes.

Robert Erfe-Mejia, deputized civil defense coordinator, said the city government will continue to engage the participation of other stakeholders to complement resources for a more effective delivery of services.#
