CALASIAO–The local government is still not certain where it will get the funds to rebuild the old municipal building that was recently razed to the ground. What they are certain about is that a new “state-of-the-art” municipal building will rise in its place.

“We are going to build a state-of-the arts municipal building,” said Mayor Roy Macanlalay who is leading a fund-raising drive among government officials and agencies to bankroll the project.

Since a fire gutted the municipal hall, all offices of the municipal government have been relocated to a multi-purpose building behind the burned structure.

Among those approached earlier by town officials for help to build the new municipal hall included President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas.

Macanlalay estimated that P60 million will be needed to complete the new municipal building.

LOAN

Meanwhile the municipal council presided by Vice Mayor Ferdinand Galang passed a resolution authorizing the mayor to negotiate a loan of still undetermined amount from any bank that will offer the lowest interest rate and best terms.

“Our loan will just be a stand-by fund if the money raised from supporters are not enough,” Macanlalay said.

The mayor has asked the business community to contribute to the Senior Divino Tesoro Foundation to help construct a new shrine beside the municipal building. The shrine was also gutted in the same fire.

The old municipal building, built in 1835, and the shrine had been standing side-by-side since Spanish colonial times. —LM
