CALASIAO–Third District Rep. Rachel Arenas, armed with her pork barrel, has prioritized the enhancement of flood control in the flood-prone towns of Calasiao and Sta. Barbara.

After consulting with residents of barangays Banaoang and Nalsian, she decided to allocate P14.8 million from her Priority Development Assistance Fund for the deepening and widening of the Marusay River.

The amount will be part of the P150 million that Arenas has allotted for flood control in her district, the bulk of which are programmed for Sta. Barbara, Bayambang and Calasiao.

Arenas said that in her less than one and a half year as congresswoman of the Third District, P400 million worth of infrastructure projects have been implemented in the district.

The Marusay River is a vital waterway in Calasiao since the Sinocalan River from Sta. Barbara is annexed to it enroute to the Lingayen Gulf thru Dagupan City.

Assistant District Engineer Marieta Mendoza of the Pangasinan sub-district engineering office said the deepening of the Marusay River will save a concrete bridge along the Jose R. de Venecia Sr. Highway in barangay Nalsian, Calasiao from further erosion.

“We will have to do a lot of dredging in Banaoang to save the community and the entire town of Calasiao from flood,” Arenas said.

After the consultation, Arenas motored to barangay Alibago, Sta. Barbara where she inspected the ongoing dredging of the Sinocalan River. LM
