New PNP reg’l head vows to intensify campaign vs. drugs
CAMP OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union–The new police director in Region 1, P/Chief Supt. Luizo Ticman, has vowed to prioritize the fight against illegal drugs during his term.
Ticman, previously the commander of the Southern District in Metro Manila, assumed his new post on September 29 and immediately warned the Ilocos Region’s men in uniform against getting involved in the trade.
“Hindi natin pababayaan itong region natin ay magpatuloy na gamitin ng mga salot sa ating lipunan,” said Ticman, adding that he intends to work closely with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
On July 9, a clandestine shabu laboratory with several drums of chemicals was raided by police elements in Barangay Binmotobot, Naguilian, La Union.
The chemicals seized could produce one trillion pesos worth of shabu and it has been considered as one of the biggest drug busts in the country.
A city police chief and several other officers are currently under investigation for alleged involvement in the laboratory’s operation.
CRIME RATE
Ticman, a member of PMA classs 76, replaced P/Chief Supt. Romeo Hilomen and vowed to decrease the crime rate in the region by at least 10 percent even as he noted that criminality in the area is not at all alarming.
The new Region 1 director, who headed the investigation of the Glorietta blast last year, also called on the force to double efforts in maintaining peace and order.
He also said they will enhance trainings and seminars on human rights in support of the programs of the Commission on Human Rights, which is also in line with the recent pronouncement of the new Philippine National Police director about improving the police’s human rights record.#
