LNU Dukes, UL Tigers clash for local PRISAA title
THE University of Luzon (UL) Golden Tigers will be defending their title against the Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) Dukes in the best-of-three finals round of the PRISAA Pangasinan-Dagupan Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championship games.
The first face-off is scheduled on October 3 at the Dukes’ home court, LNU gymnasium.
The Dukes’s rout of the University of Pangasinan (UPang) Webczars, with a precarious three-point lead, 54-51, at the end of the third quarter, was led by point guard Benjie Labitoria who made 14 points in the first three quarters and proved his consistency anew by orchestrating a 23-9 binge in the last canto.
This will be the first time the Dukes will be fighting for the championship trophy after consistently placing third in the last seven years.
“I believe our boys have already matured and ready to do battle for the crown,” said assistant coach JC Castro.
“The road ahead is still rough but we are confident we can pave it smooth to reach our destination,” he added
“Landing third for the last seven years is too much for us. I believe we are the better team this year,” echoed head coach Jason Villuan.
Meanwhile, the Tigers found themselves trailing the Pangasinan State University team by three points, 56-59 after the third quarter, but quickly displayed their championship caliber in the last period through a 27-9 romp.
“We halved our two encounters, so I think it’s an even match,” said Tigers coach Jack Vidal.
The Webczars collide with PSU on Friday’s knockout game for third place slated at 1:00 p.m.
Second game for the finals is set on October 6 and the third game, if necessary, will be held on October 7, all at 2:00 p.m.
The matches will be aired live over Sonshine Radio DZRD 981 Khz AM.-JAGJr.
