STA. BARBARA—The police here stopped a hazing activity on Wednesday afternoon and arrested 16 minors, including three leaders of the fraternity.

Superintendent Eric Noble, the town police chief, said an informant tipped them off about the hazing being held at the time inside a house fronting the Daniel Maramba National High School.

Two of the “neophytes” were girls while the rest were boys. The girl recruits were tattooed with a period while boys bore question mark on their right hands.

Two wooden paddles of about three feet long with ‘AKRHO’ markings were confiscated from the group who belonged to the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.

“This is the first time that the local police arrested minors aged 14 to 17 involved in hazing,” Noble said.

Noble said they have also been monitoring activities in Banaoang National High School in following reports that a fraternity has been recruiting members there.

The police are tracking down the fraternity’s top leaders for violating the Anti-Hazing Law even if they were not physically present during the actual hazing, Noble said.

The parents of the arrested minors were called by the police and given a lecture before they were released to their custody.

The school’s guidance counselor and the Community Help Educators of Pangasinan under Baby Montemayor will provide counseling to the students.#
