Two Pangasinan cyclists triumph in Saipan race

TWO Pangasinan cyclists now based in Guam scored a convincing 1-2 finish in the “Hell of Marianas” bikefest in U.S. Commonwealth Island of Saipan last October 19 participated in by 49 contestants from Saipan and neighboring islands of Marianas.

Mangaldan born and two-time Olympian Jazy Garcia clocked the 44-kilometer hilly bikefest in one hour, 44 minutes and 47 seconds while province mate Bobby Mandapat formerly from San Carlos City clocked in second, 59.25 seconds behind.

Saipan ace Tyce Mister settled for third with a clocking of one hour, 46 minutes and 35 seconds.

The race was a tune-up for the bigger and longer event on December 6 with a distance of 100 kilometers. The champion will earn $1,000 for the top prize while first and second runners-up to receive $500 and $300, respectively, with trophy apiece. JAG, Jr.
