Sitio Russia folk indicate ok to relocate to new site
RESIDENTS of Sitio Russia in Barangay Bonuan Binloc participated in an ocular inspection of their alternative relocation site last Tuesday afternoon, an indication that they are now considering moving out of their current area, which has been designated for a seafood project.
City Legal Officer George Mejia said the residents’ receptive attitude may now be giving way for the construction of a P100 million Seafood Processing Plant on the government-owned land.
The residents joined Regional Trial Court Judge Genoveva Maramba of Branch 44 who conducted the ocular inspection of the relocation site in Sitio Bagong Baryo, Bonuan Binloc.
The inspection was done in connection with the civil case filed by residents of sitio Russia against Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and City Engineer Virginia Rosario before her sala.
Mejia said the residents have also agreed to hold a meeting with the city mayor on September 30 to iron out other pending issues that could lead to a final settlement and agreement between the parties.
The residents earlier sued the city government for attempting to remove them forcibly by demolishing their houses last month to fast track the construction of the project.
The processing plant is funded by a $2.2 million financial grant from the Korean government through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Fernandez told newsmen that the dialogue between the city government and the residents of Sitio Russia is continuing and he does not want to impose any time frame for their negotiation.-LM
