With the rainy season believed to be over, Pangasinan’s roads are ready anew for cycling races with the first competition scheduled on September 16 in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Mangaldan Mayor Herminio Romero.
Dubbed as the “Mayor’s Cup-Emperador Brandy Cycling Challenge,” the road-battle starts and ends in Mangaldan passing through the San Fabian-San Jacinto-Mangaldan circuit route seven times with a total distance of 126 kilometers.
The event, principally sponsored by Mayor Romero and Emperador Brandy and supported by Vice Mayor Pedro A. Surdilla, Jr., is exclusively for amateur riders with a maximum of 60 participants and P39,000 in cash prizes plus trophies are at stake.
Ten major prizes will be awarded to the top finishers with the champion to receive P5,000 while the first and second runners-up pocket P4,000 and P3,000, respectively.
Special “summit sprint” prizes are also up for grabs in the first six rounds through the sponsorship of Engr. Rodolfo “Boy” Dion, Mangaldan Liga ng mga Barangay president, Melchor de Guzman, Dr. Demosthenes Ydia, Councilor Alberto Fabia, Houston-based cyclist Blandino Caguioa and Engr. Joey Aquino.
