STA. BARBARA–Mayors hailed the appointment last week of Deputy Director General Jesus Verzosa as the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, saying this augurs well for the peace and order program in the province.

Mayor Reynaldo Velasco of this town said in an interview with The PUNCH that he and his fellow mayors are confident that with a Pangasinense at the helm of the PNP, programs related to peace and order will be immediately addressed.

“I am glad they followed seniority, skills and merit in choosing the next PNP chief,” said Velasco, himself a former PNP deputy director general for administration like Verzosa.

He described Verzosa’s skills and capabilities as “kumpletos rekados “ given his experience in dealing with people, showing stability under pressure, and exposures in police work both at the local and national levels.

Verzosa belongs to Philippine Military Academy Class 76 while Velasco was part of Class 71.

Verzosa was the guest speaker during the Pangasinan Mayors’ League meeting in Binalonan last week, prior to the announcement of his promotion, during which he promised to put Pangasinan in the priority list for police development.

“We always want to go back to where we came from,” Versoza said, adding that his father, an ex- colonel in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, also returned to their ancestral farm in Dasol.

Verzosa assured the mayors he will be making frequent visits to the province. #
