LINGAYEN–It ain’t over ’til it’s over.’

Almost four months after Typhoon Cosme hit the province, District Engineer Rodolfo Dion of the Second Pangasinan Engineering District announced that the 182,683 pieces of galvanized iron (GI) sheets for victims have all been distributed.

But a number of the intended beneficiaries are sorely disappointed.

The Pangasinenses whose roofs were either damaged or completely blown off by the May 17 typhoon, lamented that the GI sheets were delivered too late while other victims who claim to be legitimate beneficiaries complained they did not receive any.

Dion said following the policy on transparency, he has asked the municipal social welfare and development officers in the affected towns to submit a report with the recipients’ names, signatures and the number of GI sheets they received and duly signed by the mayor.

So far, only Dagupan City has submitted this requirement.

Dion said the towns that received the biggest number of GI sheets were Binmaley with 31,579, San Fabian 28,595, Dagupan City 24,750, Lingayen 24,000, Bugallon 16,266 and Mangaldan 15,597.

Other recipient towns are Aguilar 6,974, Labrador 8,962, Mangatarem 5,647, Basista 1,254, Urbiztondo 9,801, all in the second district.

Manaoag 2,023 and San Jacinto 7,235.

The distribution of and number of GI sheets was based on the level of devastation suffered by the towns.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo pledged P500 million worth of roofing materials to Cosme-affected residents in Pangasinan, Zambales and La Union.#
