City promotes Operation ‘Itaub Mo’ to fight dengue
If only other towns like Calasaio had implemented Operation ‘Itaub Mo’ (OIM) vigorously, there would no dengue outbreak in these towns.
Dagupan Councilor Jesus Canto attributed the minimal number of persons afflicted with dengue in the city to the city government’s focus on OIM as the main deterrent in its campaign against dengue.
OIM is about the community’s awareness for the presence of containers in households that catch rainwater and create stagnant water where mosquitoes breed, and to empty these immediately by turning these upside down.
Canto said if only OIM would be implemented in every barangay in the city the number of dengue cases in the city could be reduced to zero.
The adoption of Operation ‘Itaub Mo’ in every home in the city was sought through a resolution sponsored by Canto.
A dengue alert was recently raised in the city following the recent declaration of a dengue outbreak in the neighboring town of Calasiao.
Canto said gutters, empty cans, old tires, pots, and others are the easy targets of mosquitoes like the dengue-carrying Aedis Aegypti strain where they lay their eggs.
Although there is now a dengue outbreak in Calasiao, Canto discourages local health authorities from undertaking fogging operations.
But the Dagupan City health office also plans to undertake fogging in barangays on the border of Calasaio to counter the flight of the deadly mosquitoes to the city’s barangays as a result of the intensified fogging in Calasiso.— LM
