Electrification of Sual’s island barangay completed
SUAL–TeaM Energy, which operates the 1,218 MW Sual Power Station here, has completed the installation of a two-kilometer submarine cable connecting the island barangay of Cabalitian to the Pangasinan mainland, marking the full barangay electrification of the province.
The project was part of the TeaM Energy’s P1.5-billion Barangay Electrification Assistance for Countryside Development (BEACON) Project which has benefited 1,500 barangays nationwide, including conflict areas in Mindanao and the most remote areas in Pangasinan.
The island is located 3.3 kilometers away from the Sual Power Station in Barangay Pangascasan. It is composed of 250 households with about 1,500 residents. It is the last beneficiary of the Project BEACON.
BEACON has brought light to over 300,000 households, benefiting at least one million Filipinos.
The project was formally turned over by TeaM Energy, a partnership between Japanese firms Tokyo Electric Power Company and Marubeni Corporation, to the Department of
Energy (DOE) in simple ceremonies held at the Sual Power Plant on Sept. 26.
“It is our honor to partner with the DOE and various local government units in completing the electrification of 1,500 barangays and spreading the benefits of electricity to even the most remote, far-flung villages in our country,” Federico Puno, TeaM Energy president said.
Under BEACON, which took five years to complete, more than 18,000 kilometers of wire were laid out, at least 60,000 poles erected, and millions worth of hardware were installed. #
