Drastic cost cutting of city hall’s phone bills eyed

A new telephone system that will use 10 trunk lines instead of single individual lines has been proposed to be set up in the Dagupan City hall to help the city government cut telephone costs.

Joseph Sto. Domingo, chief of the information communications technology group of the mayor’s office, said the private branch exchange (PBX) that will connect all offices of the city is being proposed as a cost-cutting measure.

To date, there are about 80 single telephones are being maintained by the city, costing P1,500 per month each or a minimum of P120,000 monthly.

He said that with the use of PBX, using only 10 trunk lines that are digitally-operated, the city will only spend P15,000 a month, which is a big savings to the city.

Further, with this new system, the so-called telebabad in every office will also be minimized as calls will be registered and limited to three minutes for official transactions.

However, he said, the installation cost of the systems, plus the state-of-the-art equipment that it will use will be around P930,000.

“Given the savings per month, the cost of installation can be recovered in just one year,” Sto. Domingo said.—LM
