10 Koreans die in road accident

BOLINAO—Ten Koreans, two of them Baguio-based, died when their Hyundai van crashed into a concrete wall of a business establishment along the national road in barangay Sampaloc here Wednesday noon.

P/Sr. Inspector Rizalde Dalope, Bolinao chief of police, said the blue green van, with Plate No. RBN-423,and driven by Lee Su-Keon, one of the fatalities, was believed to have encountered a mechanical trouble that led to the accident.

Lee Su-Keon, a mechanical engineer, was one of two Baguio-based Korean in that group. The other was Lee In chul, a businessman.

The other fatalities were guests of Lee In chul who had just arrived from Korea on August 26.

They drove to Baguio, and then motored to Pangasinan the next day for a swim in the Hundred Islands. They were traveling to Bolinao for their overnight stay at the Garden Paradise Resort when the accident happened.

The other who died were Park Song don,Park Soo Jin, Park Tae Sug and Kwac Byung Bae, all pastors; Jeong Jeong Hee, Park Pu Ah and Han Youn Oh, all houewives; and Choi Mi Kyong, 5, a student.

Two of the fatalities were newly-weds.

The van was seen to be speeding on the road amidst a slight drizzle when the accident happened.

“It looked like they were asleep when the tragic accident happened because witnesses did not hear screams”, said Cesare Manzano, owners of the Gethsemane Memorial Park in barangay Palamis where the victims were brought.

Eight of the casualties were brought to Manila on Thursday to be repatriated to Korea while the two others were brought to Baguio where they will be buried.

Mayor Alfonso Celeste, who was shocked on hearing about the accident, directed the police to extend all help to the relatives of the victims who arrived the next day to retrieve the belongings of their deceased kin.#
