Jobs await professional and skilled Pangasinenses in Canada
ALAMINOS CITY– Wanted: Professionals and skilled workers in Alberta, Canada!
The call for recruitment was confirmed by Carl Benito, a Filipino-Canadian member of the legislative assembly of Alberta, Canada.
Benito, who made history for being first Filipino elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Edmonton Mill-Woods, Canada, recently visited Alaminos City and various parts of the country last week.
“I’m here basically to discuss with our local executives the possibilities of inviting and hiring Filipino workers to go to Alberta,” said the Alberta congressman.
He said Alberta is in need of contract workers that include doctors, nurses, care givers, welders, skilled and technical people for oil industries and service crews for food chains.
Benito said the Alberta government prefers Filipinos because of their excellent work ethics and dedication.
He also expressed interest in initiating a city-province sisterhood agreement between Alaminos and Alberta.
Benito and his family with close friends were warmly received in the city by city administrator Wilmer Panabang and Wayne Jaro, in behalf of City Mayor Hernani A. Braganza.
“Alberta, known for its oil reserves and oil capital of Canada, is now a booming province,” said Benito, who migrated to Canada in 1982 with only $100 in his pocket.
There, he became a successful real state and insurance agent before he entered politics.
An estimated 35,000 Filipinos now live in Edmonton alone and cited the increasing number of Pangasinenses who are citizens of Alberta.
He said Alberta plans to increase the number of foreign immigrants and temporary foreign workers to 50,000 by the end of 2009.
“Alberta also welcomes international students from all over the world for their post secondary education to improve language capabilities and to gain work experience which could eventually lead to employment opportunities in Alberta,” added Benito..
He further expressed hope that both the Canadian and Philippine governments will soon draft a memorandum of agreement to help speed-up the migration of Filipino workers to Canada.-LM
