Barangay Health Workers hailed for helping fight TB
DAGUPAN City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. hailed the significant contributions of the Barangay Health Workers (BHW) in winning the battle against diseases.
The BHWs in the city were tasked to help detect tuberculosis cases and to monitor cure rates of patients enrolled in the National Tuberculosis Program-Directly Observed Treatment System (NTP-DOTS) program.
Arminda Claveria, a midwife from Pantal, was named the best NTP-DOTS performer while Eleanor Callanta, a BHW from Mayombo, was also cited for achieving a 100% case detection and 100% cure rate for all eight tuberculosis patients under her care.
Perla Flores of Salapingao and Ruby Dalmacio were also named best NTP-DOTS barangay health worker and medical technologist, respectively.
Fernandez described the BHWs as “miracle workers” and the “new architects of community development”.
“Our storyline today is that of a city in the pink of health,” Fernandez declared.
He enjoined the BHWs and city health office personnel to be more proactive in enhancing their performance
He commended Dr. Aurora Cuison, head of the city health office’s DOTS clinic and the health workers for pursuing a continuing medical education as indication of genuine concern for their present and future work.—CIO
