More bangus fry were distributed to farm operators in Dagupan, Labrador and Calasiao on July 31 as part of the efforts to rehabilitate the bangus industry which suffered greatly from the fury of Typhoon Cosme.

Earlier, more than two million bangus fry were distributed to fisherfolk in Lingayen, Bugallon, Sual, San Fabian, Mangaldan, and Agno.

Nestor Domenden, regional director of the Bureau of fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Rene Bocaya, national sales manager of Finfish Hatcheries, Inc. based in Sarangani province, turned over to Dagupan Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and Labrador Mayor Ernesto Acain the bangusfry, which in turn were immediately distributed to the beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries from Calasiao town received their own allocation.

Finfish Hatcheries donated one million bangus fry to the program.

The distribution is part of the 10-million bangus fry program laid out by the Department of Agriculture for bangus farm operators affected by Typhoon Cosme which hit the province in May.

Domenden also said BFAR will also be providing assistance to seaweed farmers in western Pangasinan, particularly in Infanta, Dasol and Anda.

“Ito ay upang maibalik natin ang status ng seaweed industry,” Domenden said—CSR
