Atienza names Guv as special environment officer

LINGAYEN–Now not only is he governor, he is also Mother Nature’s special protector in the province.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr. has been deputized by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Jose Atienza Jr. as Special Environment and Natural Resources Officer of the province.

As such, Espino now wields the authority to confiscate tools, equipment, structures and conveyances used in the commission of offenses against existing environmental laws, and arrest those involved in the extraction of any and all natural resources from Pangasinan.

As SENRO, he is authorized to call upon the support services of all DENR officials and personnel and other allied agencies operating in Pangasinan.

Leduina Co, provincial environment and natural resources officer of the province, welcomed the appointment and expressed more confidence that his office’s activities and concerns can expectedly get more support from the provincial government now that the governor himself is SENRO.

Espino reiterated his commitment to preserve, develop and protect Pangasinan’s environment.

The governor spearheaded the creation of the Save The Lingayen Gulf Movement when he was PNP provincial director from 1992-1995

Espino said more than one million seedlings are being prepared by the provincial government to be planted across the province and there is a pending proposal before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan seeking to students to help in the planting.

Atienza, who arrived here Friday for the launching of his first regional People’s Hour, formalized Espino’s new role as provided for in Section 19 of DENR Administrative Order No. 2000-11, otherwise known as the Revised Manual of Approval, issued on February 8, 2000.

Atienza also launched the ‘Regional People’s Hour’ at the Pangasinan State University to help advance the concerns of the marginalized sectors such as upland farmers and fisherfolks to the national government.#
