Upgrade of provincial hospital in San Carlos starts
SAN CARLOS CITY–Work for the expansion and modernization of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) located here commenced Wednesday with clearing operations on a 4.2-hectare area that will serve as the site for five new buildings.
Governor Amado Espino, who personally supervised the clearing work, said the new buildings will be equipped with modern facilities.
“My vision here is to offer here what the hospitals in Dagupan can offer,” said Espino.
The funding for the new structures for the PPH will be made top priority in the capital outlay next year, he added.
“The new buildings will house a dialysis center, nurses’ quarters, supply building, conference hall, and a maternity area,” Espino said.
Dr. Policarpio Manuel, officer-in-charge of the hospital, said the priority given by the governor for the hospital inspires the hospital’s 299 personnel to give better public service.
The area for the new buildings, which Manuel described “like a jungle”, is located at the back of the existing PPH.
The clearing operations were undertaken jointly by police elements by this city, and the cities of Dagupan and Urdaneta as well as from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and personnel from the Provincial Engineering Office, General Services Office and the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council.
The doctor said the additional facilities will make the 150-bed PPH, which serves an average of 175 patients daily from all over the province, very competitive.
Espino announced that about P35 million was already disbursed for the repair of 14 other hospitals under the provincial government battered by storm ‘Cosme’. The amount includes the P11 million provided by the Department of Health.
The hospitals currently undergoing repair are in Dasol, Bolinao, Alaminos City, Lingayen, Bayambang, PPH, Mapandan, Manaoag, Asingan, Umingan and Tayug.#
