UNICEF, NGO give packs to school children, teachers

DAGUPAN CITY–To alleviate conditions in schools hit by Typhoon Cosme, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and partner non-government organization (NGOs) turned over 1,500 children’s packs and 181 teachers’ packs July 21 in a simple ceremony at the City Museum here.

Emily de Vera, UNICEF consultant for education in emergencies, led the turn-over ceremony attended by Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and school officials headed by Dr. Aurora Domingo, city schools division superintendent.

The undertaking is part of still ongoing efforts to help those affected by Typhoon Cosme which hit the province on May 17.

Each pack contained a school bag, notebooks, pencils and other school materials.

Also distributed were “Save the Children” Disaster Management Reference Materials Box with Unicef gameboards, other school supplies.

Fernandez thanked the benefactors for selecting some elementary schools in the city as beneficiaries of their outreach program.

Similar donations were also distributed in different schools in Dasol.

De Vera said distribution of book references may be done next month. —CSR
