Two officers designated to lead Dagupan police
Two heads are better than one.
This seems to be the policy being adopted now by police superiors for the Dagupan force following the relief of P/Supt Dionicio Borromeo who has been implicated in a major drug case.
P/Supt. Mariano Luis Versoza Jr. has been designated on Tuesday as supervisor of the city police force by P/Chief Supt. Romeo Hilomen, Region 1 director, one week after P/Supt. Gerry Roxas was assigned as officer-in-charge by P/Sr. Supt Isagani Nerez, provincial police director.
Roxas was the deputy police chief in Dagupan while Versoza was the chief of the regional investigation and detective management of the Police Regional Office I based at Camp Florendo in San Fernando City.
Members of the city police were initially confused by the set up, which was never seen in the station, but Nerez assured them that there should be no problem with the two temporary appointments.
“So we have an OIC and supervisor,” Nerez said, explaining that the supervisor functions as the adviser of the OIC.
The OIC is “the man on the ground while the supervisor is the consultant and technical adviser” he added.
Versoza, a native of Lingayen and a member of the Class 1984 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), told reporters that with his assumption here he will guide the entire Dagupan police force and tell them not to be demoralized with what happened to Borromeo.
Nerez also said they are now in the process of finding a permanent replacement for Borromeo by drafting a shortlist of nominees that will be presented to Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr.
Fernandez, meanwhile, said he was both surprised and saddened by the turn of events involving Borromeo whom he described to have performed well in their anti-drugs campaign given the several successful operations against dealers in the city.
“That came as a sudden twist and I was surprised and disappointed,” he said, adding that his sentiments are shared by many Dagupeños.
Fernandez said he trusts that an impartial investigation will be given to all the accused.
Borromeo has been linked by one of the arrested suspects at a clandestine shabu laboratory in Barangay Binmotobot, Naguilian, La Union with chemicals and equipment estimated to have a capacity for manufacturing about P1 trillion worth of the illegal substance.—CSR
