LINGAYEN–What’s happening? Three councilors murdered, and like other high profile murder cases, remain unsolved.

The successive gun slayings of local legislators by still unknown assailants has prompted the Pangasinan Councilors’ League to ask police authorities to double their efforts in resolving the murders.

Board Member Raul Sison, head of the Philippine Councilors’ League (Pangasinan chapter), filed a resolution Monday before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan directing Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Isagani Nerez to attend the board’s inquiry.

“Very alarming na itong mga sunud-sunod na pagpatay,” Sison said.

Shot dead were Juan Ablao of Alcala town, Albert Sibayan of San Quintin town and Igmedio Lariosa of Binalonan town. Sibayan and Lariosa were killed within a span of 12 days this month.

Sison also called on his fellow councilors to take extra precaution.

Nerez, in response, said the resolution is a good means for strengthening the partnership between the police and local government officials.

“That will inspire us to improve our performance in enforcing laws,” Nerez said.

Nerez said initial investigations on the three cases indicate that Ablao’s killing was most likely motivated by business dealings, Sibayan’s possibly involves a love triangle and illegal drugs, while Lariosa’s was possibly political as well as revenge arising from the victim’s involvement in certain incidents.

He admitted no suspects have been identified in the three killings so far.

Among the high-profile killings that remain unsolved by the provincial police are the cases of Mayor Resuello who was killed April 28, 2007, Vice Mayor Bony Apilado of San Manuel, lawyers Conrado Soriano of San Carlos and Alejo Dojillo of San Fabian and Cenpelco official Sandra Frias.#
