PSU also teaches Mandarin

LINGAYEN–The government-owned Pangasinan State University (PSU) here has started to offer Mandarin language to its students as an optional course to better equip them in the future in effectively communicating with Chinese nationals in the business area

Dr. Merlita Santos, head of the PSU, told The PUNCH that Mandarin, a three-unit subject, is being enjoyed by their students who are taking up Bachelor of Arts in English, Hotel and Restaurant Management and Education course.

At the same time, several Chinese students have opted to study at PSU because of this.

“They find our students friendly and able to communicate with them,” Santos said.

The Chinese students are part of an exchange program under a memorandum of agreement earlier signed by the PSU with the Chinese government.

“Our students teach the Chinese how to speak English and our Chinese students also teach them in return how to speak Mandarin,” Santos said.

She said this peer-teaching, peer-learning has proved productive to both.#
