THE province will soon have a pool of new tour guides.

Fifty-seven young college graduates are attending a 10-day Professional Tour Guiding seminar at the newly refurbished Capitol Resort Hotel (formerly Lingayen Resort Hotel) from July 21 to August 1.

Presently, there is only one licensed tour guide in Pangasinan.

The seminar initiated by the Provincial Tourism Office was designed to improve tourism services in the province and update and upgrade the knowledge and skills of would-be tour guides.

Tourism Chief Operations Officer Luisa Elduayan said that aside from tour guiding and tour escorting, the tour guides will be tasked to educate visitors about tourist destinations in the province.

They are trained on interpersonal communication skills, tourist security and police relations, first aid or safety measures, tour guide accreditation, airline ticketing and interpretation, tour planning management, business structure of tour guiding, hotel procedure and the portrait on a tour guide.

The Department of Tourism administers the National Tour Exam, a graded exercise on Practical Guiding Technique and Mock Tour Practicum for participants.

Those who will pass the exam will be accredited by DOT as licensed tour guide.#
