MEDIATORS WANTED

THE Philippine Mediation Center Office (PMCO) under the Supreme Court will open its units in Dagupan and in other parts of the province to resolve small cases that can be settled amicably outside the court.

Atty. Danilo Fernandez, clerk of court of the Regional Trial Courts in Dagupan City, told The PUNCH these units called “court annex” will be set up for the first time in Pangasinan after its pilot testing in Manila, Bacolod, Baguio and San Fernando City, Pampanga.

“It is time PMCO opens its units in Pangasinan since there are many cases here that can be amicably settled too, without going through court hearings,” Fernandez said.

The office of RTC Judge Emma Torio of Branch 41 has announced that PMCO and the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILIA) are now accepting applicants for the position of mediators.

The applicant must be a bachelor’s degree holder, at least 30 years of age and of good moral character.

Application forms are available at the office of Judge Torio at the Hall of Justice in Bonuan Tondaligan, Dagupan City from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday.

The applicants are required to bring their curriculum vitae with 2 x 2 picture, diploma or transcript of records, NBI/Police clearance and certificate of good moral character from persons not related to the applicant.

Successful applicants will be trained prior to their formal appointments.

The ‘court annex’ will handle cases referred to it by courts that are determined where amicable settlements are possible and can therefore be settled extra-judicially.

He said this new approach will help clear the courts of heavy dockets and judges can now concentrate on the bigger and more important cases.—LM
