Mayors mend ties with Espino

CALASIAO– All’s well that ends well.

The rifts between Governor Amado Espino Jr. and some of the mayors and as well as among the mayors themselves have been ironed out following a “no holds barred” meeting in a restaurant here.

The falling out stemmed from a meeting by 12 mayors, initiated by Binmaley Mayor Simplicio Rosario, which was misconstrued by other mayors known to be close allies of Espino as a premature political positioning for the 2010 elections.

Rosario submitted his resignation as public relations officer of the Pangasinan Mayors’ League after being bitterly criticized by some of its members but the group did not accept it.

Rosario said he was upset by Bugallon Mayor Ric Orduña’s public statement questioning his authority to call a meeting “when he is not even an officer of the Mayors’ League”.

The conciliatory meeting, attended by 28 mayors, was called by Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico Jr., president of the Pangasinan Mayors’ League, who got embroiled in the word war himself after some mayors described the league as “useless”.

“Mayor Rosario had no bad intention. He was just misunderstood and the media blew it out proportion,” Guico said.

Rosario, for his part, said he has nothing against Espino and pledged his support as he “had consistently done in the past”.

Guico said he is now setting a meeting between the mayors and the governor to seal the conciliation and mark a fresh start among the province’s politicians.#
